1. Introduction. Pressure definition and examples.
2. Basic principles of the theory of elasticity. Stress and strain tensors. Thermodynamics of deformation. Hooke's law. Elastic moduli. Equation of state.
3. Thermodynamics of phase transitions. Gibbs free energy. Equilibrium and chemical potential. Phase diagram. Kinetics of phase transitions.
4. Pressure generation. High-pressure devices. Pressure scale and experimental environment.
5. High-pressure synthesis. Utrahard materials: Diamond and cubic-BN. Novel high-pressure nitrides and their properties.
