Introduction to laboratory work, quality control, analytical errors, influence of the water matrix, comparability of analytical methods, accuracy of results and statistical evaluation, occupational health and safety, assessment of a municipal wastewater treatment plant on the basis of operating data, sampling, sample preservation, on-site investigations.
Performance of practical experiments from the field of microscopy of activated sludge, determination of sum parameters (e.g. COD, TOC, DOC, SAK, conductivity), nitrogen compounds (e.g. NH4-N, NO3-N), phosphorus (total P, PO4-P), sludge characteristics (e.g. ISV, TR, TS, GV) and respirometry as well as precipitation and flocculation.
Teaching goal:
Students will be able to dimension, plan, design, operate and maintain environmental engineering systems, taking into account technical, economic and ecological aspects. The students possess the ability to weigh different solutions, to explain them in a factual and comprehensible manner, to make decisions and to justify them. Students are able to present the results of their work in an appropriate form. The students possess the ability to work independently on subject-specific problems according to scientific principles. The students are able to contribute to a group in a goal-oriented manner for the joint solution of an engineering task.
