Course Contents:
The module "Hydraulic Engineering" provides an insight into the relevant hydromechanical and hydraulic engineering principles that are important for sustainable urban, spatial and infrastructure development. The following topics are covered:
Theoretical basics
- Water properties (density, viscosity, compressibility)
- Hydrodynamic basics (flow characteristics, parameters, continuity approach)
- Channel hydraulic basics (flow formula and shear stress)
- Hydromorphological basics (erosion, sedimentation, transport of solids in water bodies)
Practical applications
- Flood protection
- Watercourse development, renaturation
- Hydropower utilisation
- Inland navigation and hydraulic engineering
Project work in small groups
- Group work tasks adapted to current hydraulic engineering topics
Literature:
For each course unit, PDF slide copies are offered for download and supplementary literature recommendations are provided. Some course units are supported by screencasts.
