Course Contents:

The module "Hydraulic Engineering" provides an insight into the relevant hydromechanical and hydraulic engineering principles that are important for sustainable urban, spatial and infrastructure development. The following topics are covered:

Theoretical basics


  •     Water properties (density, viscosity, compressibility)
  •     Hydrodynamic basics (flow characteristics, parameters, continuity approach)
  •     Channel hydraulic basics (flow formula and shear stress)
  •     Hydromorphological basics (erosion, sedimentation, transport of solids in water bodies)



Practical applications

  •     Flood protection
  •     Watercourse development, renaturation
  •     Hydropower utilisation
  •     Inland navigation and hydraulic engineering



Project work in small groups

  •     Group work tasks adapted to current hydraulic engineering topics
