Course Contents:
Flows of Newtonian liquids are described by the continuity and Navier-Stokes equations, Bernoulli equations or Archimedes law. However, the description of small scale flows is influenced by the additional physics. At the gates to micro- and nano-liquid flows stay interfacial and other forces caused by intermolecular interactions. In this course we will study the nature of surface tension and wettability, their effect on the liquid flow in drops, films and jets, as well as their instability, which in some cases leads to the liquid breakup and atomization. On the examples of the most beautiful solutions, we will study how to theoretically treat the problems in which the interfacial forces are significant.
