Course Contents:
We will learn about global theorems of curves but also some theorems about surfaces. Examples are the four-vertex theorem:  The curvature along a simple, closed, smooth planar curve has at least four local extrema (specifically, at least two local maxima and at least two local minima). Or a version of the Hopf-Rinow theorem: On a complete surface, every two points can be connected by a minimizing geodesic.

Several talks will be based on the book "Curves and Surfaces" by Abate and Toneva (Springer 2006).

If you're interested to attend this Bachelor Seminar, please come to the introductory meeting at Thursday, 14th of March, 10 am in the seminar room 301 (in the S2|15 building).

If you don't have time at that day and time, please write me an email: maeder-baumdicker@mathematik.tu-darmstadt.de
