Further Grading Information:
Facts and circumstances to be considerd in reald world problems are often very complex. Hence, corresponding models are often used in order to handle complexity. Within this lecture, the students acquire the skills to represent such facts and circumstances as decision or optimization problems, thereby including also complex interdependencies. Also after attending the lecture, the students have the ability to model components of different categories such as process, software and knowledge components, to combine them to application systems. Furthermore, they are able to simulate application systems before their fisrt real usage.

Official Course Description:

  • Modelling of optimization problems: Decision variables and domains; restrictions and their definition; definition of goals
  • Modelling of decision problems: Types and parts of goal systems; modelling of preferences using utility theory; descriptive approaches
  • Modelling of complex causal relationships: Diagram-based languages for modeling complex causal relationships; continuous simulation with system dynamics
