Course Contents:
We start with a short summary of the structure and representation theory of finite-dimensional simple Lie algebras. After that we are considering the affinizations of these Lie algebras, in particular their representations. We will see that some of them carry the structure of a vertex algebra. These are the Wess-Zumino-Witten models known in physics. In the final part of the lecture we give an introduction to the theory of vertex algebras.
