Course Contents:
The lecture presents - different - philosophical diagnoses of a "crisis" (a crisis of European thought, of modern society, of humanity, of morality, of political relations, of the "subject" etc.) that have been formulated in the course of a 'long' 20th century.
The lecture gives a comparative overview. Numerous authors are discussed - from Simmel, Haeckel, Spengler to Husserl, Heidegger, Jaspers, Arendt, Horkheimer/Adorno, Lacan, Foucault and Deleuze/Guattari. Crisis theories range from the incantation of hereditary biological "degeneration" to variants of scientific and technological criticism to so-called "postmodernism".
The guide to crisis diagnostics provides an unusual overview of 20th-century philosophy. Not least, the "crisis" as a form of thinking typical of modernity will be explored in detail. The lecture develops several theses on this subject.
Preconditions:
The lecture is designed for students of philosophy, but can also be interesting for guests. The lecture will be held in German language. Listeners from other departments are welcome.
