Introduction: Operational and sales processes; types of enterprises; corporate objectives
Planning and decision making: models as decision support tools; the basic decision theory model; solving problems with contrary objectives ; utility theory; multi-level decision problems
Production: Production theory; cost theory; production planning and control
Materials management and logistics: Material requirements planning; lot-sizing; transportation planning and routing; location planning
Sales and marketing: product policy; price policy; distribution policy; communication policy; marketing mix

Official Course Description:
Students should develop a broad understanding of fundamental economic problems and interdependencies that occur within a business company. They should be able to apply appropriate methods for supporting management decisions, and they should be able to evaluate the quality of the obtained solution and its feasibility. The concepts and methods discussed in the course also prepare students for advanced management courses. In addition, the acquired understanding and knowledge enables students to develop profound competencies for solving problems they may be confronted with during an internship or within their future occupation.
Students should get an understanding of basic properties of decision support models that can be applied in practice. Thereby, they should be able to model realistic problems and solve them by applying appropriate model-based methods. In addition, students should become aware of the complex structures of companies and understand processes that occur in the different departments. The literature discussed in the course, out of which the most important ones are listed below, provides a good overview of the topics discussed and supports the students in their studies.
