Computer Networks and distributed Systems / Net-Centric-Computing (NCC) is, in this context, understood as "internet technology" in the broadest sense. It covers, in particular, themes of the "classical areas" constituted by computer networks and distributed systems. The lecture focusses on the fundemental understanding of these areas.
- Overview of Net-Centric Computing (NCC), a basic element of modern computer science
- Knowledge and in depth comprehension about fundamental concepts in the area of computer networks
- Knowledge of fundamental concepts for modeling, planning and evaluating net-centric systems
The lecture is supposed to engage the students in the following concepts:
- Overview knowledge about relevant areas and essential issues of Net-Centric Computing
- Reproducable and deep comprehension of fundamental concepts of computer networks
- Applicable knowledge of methods about broadly used parts of modeling and design of Net-Centric Systems
Contents
- Computer Networks
- Foundations: Service, protocols, connection, layer model
- Most important protocol mechanisms for media access, routing, broad-/multicast
- optional: performance evaluation
- Distributed systems and algorithms
- Selected Algorithms (e.g. clocks, consistency, choice, snapshot)
- Programmingmodels and - languages (e.g. RPC and event driven communication)
- Selected aspects of engineering (e.g. formal approaches)
