"Olbrich and the Underworld"
Under the world-famous Mathildenhöhe in Darmstadt with the buildings of Joseph Maria Olrich, cathedral-like water reservoirs stretch out. A fascinating, unknown and mystical underworld with sculptural power. Built at the end of the 19th century, they served as water reservoirs, an essential part of the central water supply. With their unique architectural design and strategic location, they are an inspiring historical testimony to the art of engineering.
Today they are classified as cultural monuments, but continue to lie dormant underground without any use. We would like to wake up the reservoirs, make them a place of cultural exchange and creative inspiration, connecting the past and the present.
Our light seminar invites you to expand your creative boundaries, as it were, to cross spatial boundaries through light and explore the symbiosis of architecture and light.
Together we will explore how we can stage the tectonically expressive and profiled structure of the water reservoir through light to create diverse atmospheres as a cultural place of encounter, creativity and relaxation, also in the context of sound and music.
