In addition to the Heliodon, which simulates the position of the sun, a Light Experiment Lab (LEL) is being created in the coming semester at the Department of E+GT, which will enable you to experiment with electric light.
 
In a world in which light and lighting play a central role in the perception of our environment, it is crucial to develop a profound understanding of the effect and use of light sources and luminaires.

As part of the seminar, a light experimentation laboratory will be designed and set up.

How does light influence our perception of spaces? What role does light play in creating atmosphere and mood? Which materials and surfaces reflect, scatter or absorb light in interesting ways? How can we use these properties to create visual effects and transform spaces? What innovative technologies are available to us to control light? How can we design lighting systems that are flexible and adaptable?

Together we will design, construct and build this light experimentation lab that will serve as a creative hub for architectural light demonstrations. We will test different light sources, luminaires, control systems and materials to develop a deeper understanding of the role of light in architecture.

The vision for the use of the laboratory is:


  • The Light Experiment Lab will not only be a source of inspiration, but also provide a hands-on environment where we can explore the boundaries of light and you can discover new ways to shape the built environment.
  • Basic quantities of light such as luminous flux, illuminance, luminance and light colour can be experienced in measure and number.
