Digitale Lehre: The lectures will be held in presence. As digital alternative, the lecture notes and a weekly discussion session via zoom will be provided. There will be one exercise session held in presence (max. 16 participants) and one via zoom.
Lehrinhalte: This course provides an introduction to modern nuclear theory and its connections to other areas of physics such as particle physics and ultracold atoms. The lecture will be held in English, as all modern references are in English; questions and discussions in German are of course welcome. Two-min questions and homework problems will be designed to improve the understanding of and to explore the topics covered in the lecture. 0. Organizational matters and guiding principles 1. Fundamental forces, strong interactions, and nuclei 2. Nuclear forces: scattering and bound states 3. Effective theories for low energies and universality 4. Nuclear many-body problem 5. Chiral Effective Field Theory and applications to nuclei 6. Selected advanced topics The lectures will be held in presence. As digital alternative, the lecture notes and a weekly discussion session via zoom will be provided. For most lectures we will provide advance reading material.
Literatur: Lecture notes will be provided. See also the textbook V. Zelevinsky and A. Volya, Physics of Atomic Nuclei, Wiley-VCH https://hds.hebis.de/ulbda/Record/HEB406462704 which is available as an ebook at the ULB. Further literature will be given in the lecture.
