Offizielle Kursbeschreibung: The seminar provides an overview of historic and current energy transitions focusing on economic, social and political developments. On the one hand, the course deals with the challenges and opportunities that drive transformations of energy systems and energy-related industries. This includes discussing the relevance of global challenges like climate change and sustainable development and analyzing how they contribute to transformations of energy systems and industries. On the other hand, we will analyze broader geopolitical questions that energy supply and demand bring up but again focus particularly on challenges related to the transition towards renewable energy systems. The seminar will be conducted in cooperation with Prof. Frauke Urban and a group of MSc students of KTH in Stockholm. A first meeting for TU Darmstadt students will take place 15.07.2021 at 19.00 o’clock CET via zoom to clarify organizational issues. Another preparatory meeting is scheduled for 02.09.2021 from 17.00 to 20.00 o’clock. The joint seminar will then be conducted from 06.-10.09.2021 from 09.00-12.30 o’clock each day for in class activities and group work to be conducted independently by the students in the afternoon from 13.30-15.00 o’clock. A wrap-up session will be held on 10.09.2021 from 13.30-14.30. Oral exams for TU Darmstadt students will take place on the 20. and 21.09.2021.
