Lehrinhalte:
The lecture "Environmental Sciences" provides in the first part an in-depth view on the following topics:

• The environment as a system: Earth system science; interaction of society and the natural environment
  
• Targets, data, monitoring: SDGs, DPSIR, international statistics and monitoring systems.
  
• International environmental policies: Frameworks, institutions and instruments, international collaboration.
  
• Global challenges: Global problems, drivers and solution approaches.
  

• Transformation analysis and development concepts for a regional bioeconomy
  
• Climate change impacts on water resources
  
• Protection against extreme floods
  
• Wastewater based Epidemiology – what wastewater reveals about our society
  
• Water and resource reclamation – strategies for municipalities and industry
  
• Oxidative water treatment: searching the silver bullet

The literature will be announced at the beginning of the course.

Weitere Informationen:
The lecture "Environmental Sciences" continues the topics of the lecture "Fundamentals of Environmental Sciences / Grundlagen der Umweltwissenschaften" (Bachelor), but it can also be attended by students who did not take part in the previous lecture.

Nachhaltigkeitsbezug der Veranstaltungsinhalte:
The course „Environmental Sciences“ provides a holistic view of current environmental challenges, their impacts on society and possible ways to tackle them. Among the 17 SDGs of the United Nations, the course „Environmental Sciences“ directly embraces Goal 6 – clean water and sanitation; Goal 7 – affordable and clean energy; Goal 11 – sustainable cities and communities; Goal 12 – responsible consumption and production; Goal 13 – climate action; Goal 14 – life bellow water; and Goal 15 – life on land.

The course also counts with exercises, giving the students the opportunity to develop their scientific writing communication in current topics of environmental science and sustainability.
