Lehrinhalte: OZ Locked-up: Viewing Australian Panel History through a Media Studies Perspective This class has two aims: firstly to introduce concepts and methodologies of media studies and secondly to investigate and discuss the representation of Australia’s history as a penal colony in selected TV-features, documentaries and feature films, e.g. Norman Dawn’s For The Term of His Natural Life (1927), Port Arthur (2007), Weewar (Statusik, 2010) and Van Diemen’s Land (Jonathan auf der Heide, 2009). We will furthermore explore how Australia’s history is represented in print media (picture books, juvenile literature and novels), digital narratives and digital archives. Please purchase Richard Flanagan’s novel Wanting (2008) and Nicholas Mirzoeff's An Introduction to Visual Culture (2nd edition) ISBN 9780415327596; all other materials will be made available in a class pack which can be picked up at the beginning of the term at the copy shop Druckwerk!
