Offizielle Kursbeschreibung: In this class we will examine and discuss (close reading) how two acclaimed thinkers conceptualise modernity and conditions of being modern. By tackling important issues such as the representation of war, atrocity, suffering and hope as well as the relationship between speed, photography and information technology the class invests in a practise of rigorous thinking and the pursuit of what Marx famously calls "a ruthless critique of everything that exists." Moreover, the class shares the spirit of debating societies and discussion clubs hence offering a debating realm in which students have a chance to speak up their concerns and problem solution ideas. Be aware!! This is a theory driven class!!
