Offizielle Kursbeschreibung:

Grammatical analysis is an essential tool for the linguist. In this course we learn how to apply some standard methods of formal and functional grammar analysis, following the Comprehensive Grammarof the English Language (Quirk et al. 1985) and the corpus-based Longman Grammar of Spoken and Written English (Biber et al. 1999). We will also be concerned with the meanings that particular grammatical patterns create when they are instantiated in texts. This course is recommended to every student of English!

You are expected to attend the class on a regular basis (no more than 2 classes must be missed). You have to actively participate and prepare each class. You obtain a Schein/credits by submitting assignments, doing a short oral presentation in the second half of semester and a written exam at the end of term.

This course qualifies for the following types of study programs/modules:

Magister and LaB(old): Grundstudium, participation in this course only allowed after successful completion of GK Introduction to Linguistics.

Joint BA Anglistik: Module A.1.3.
