Lehrinhalte: In this seminar, we will look at some of the most important developments (mainly in British) theatre since the 1950s. We will explore the lingering influence of Brecht’s Epic Theatre and the impact of the Theatre of the Absurd, before we move on to examine very recent concepts and developments such as In-Yer-Face Theatre and what Lehmann calls “Postdramatic Theatre”, that is, performances that either work without a dramatic text or where the dramatic text is secondary. We will furthermore develop productive approaches to analysing different aspects of stage productions and their effects. These skills and insights will then be put into practice. We will analyse a couple of stage productions on DVD before we watch three exciting live stage productions, two at the Staatstheater Darmstadt and one at the English Theatre in Frankfurt.
Literatur: A reader with secondary literature will be made available to all participants at the beginning of the semester.
Voraussetzungen: Regular attendance and participation in discussions, group presentation, term paper: analysis of a stage production (12-15 pages)
