Course Contents:
Systems of conservation laws are evolutionary nonlinear partial differential equations with several applications coming from both physics and engineering, in particular from fluid dynamics and traffic models. The course aims to be an introduction to the well-posedness theory for the Cauchy problem associated to scalar conservation laws (in several space dimension) and to systems of conservation laws (in one space dimension).

A. Bressan, Hyperbolic Systems of Conservation Laws. The One Dimensional Cauchy problem. Oxford University Press (2000).
C. Dafermos, Hyperbolic Conservation Laws in Continuum Physics. Springer (2016).
 

Preconditions:
Analysis I-II, ODE, Integration theory, Linear algebra I-II. It is perfectly fine to attend the course in parallel to Functional Analysis. No previous knowledge of partial differential equations is assumed.

Lecture on Tuesday 13.30-15.20 starting from 15.10.2019 in room S103/161.

Exercise on Thursday 11.40-13.20 every two weeks, starting from 17.10.2019 in room S103/104.
