German Sign Language (DGS = Deutsche Gebärdensprache) is a visually perceptible natural language used by deaf people to communicate. For the communication with DGS not only hands, but also facial expressions and silently spoken words as well as the body posture are actively used. Like words and sounds in the spoken German language, gestures are combined into grammatical sentences and sentence sequences.
The offered language course DGS II is the follow-up course to DGS I. DGS I teached the basis of the German sign language as well as the international finger alphabet. In DGS II, we will systematically practice and broaden our vocabulary and speech act repertoire, paying particular attention to unique features of hearing-impaired/deaf culture.
The number of students is limited to 15 persons at the request of the deaf teacher. Parallel to the lessons, the teacher provides learning material, videos and other online material.
A written and oral-visual exam will take place at the end of the course.
Literature:
Course material will be handed out by the instructor. Approximately 2 € will be collected by the instructor during class.
