Official Course Description:
Qualifikationsziele / Lernergebnisse

The students are able to develop and design any deep foundation, taking into account the soil-structure interaction. Individual piles and pile groups with various loading conditions (vertical, horizontal, cyclic) can be designed. In addition, the students are able to predict the foundations settlement behaviour. They are able to plan and evaluate pile load tests. The consolidation settlements are discussed in details. The detailed knowledge of the various methods for determining the soil stress distribution for shallow and deep foundations enables the students to exchange the necessary information with the structural designer of the foundation in order to precisely describe parameters such as subgrade properties, stress concentrations and settlement behaviour. An introduction to rock mechanics teaches the students the basic principles of rock mechanics, the assessment of rock properties and the understanding of design principles.
