Official Course Description:
Lectures
Using the unstructured Finite Volume Method to discretize Partial Differential Equations.
Applying the FVM discretization of single-field Navier-Stokes Equations for incompressible two-phase flows.
Understanding the segregated solution algorithms for the discretized single-field Navier-Stokes Equations for incompressible two-phase flows.
Understanding the challenges of the unstructured FVM discretization of single-field Navier-Stokes equations, for example: approximating surface tension forces and handling high density ratios.
Understanding the sub-algorithms of Lagrange / Euler Interface Advection methods for fluid interfaces: the Volume-of-fluid method, the Level Set method, the Front Tracking method, their hybrids (Level Set / Volume of Fluid and Level Set / Front Tracking), as well as Parcel (Particle) in Cell method for droplet/particle multiphase flows.

Exercises
Understanding the main aspects of object-oriented and generic programming in the C++ programming language and the software design patterns used to build modular numerical software, with the focus on Lagrange / Euler interface advection methods.
Implementation of the Level Set method in the open-source software OpenFOAM, understanding its benefits and drawbacks.
Implementation of numerical models in OpenFOAM for Parcel in Cell numerical method for droplet/particle flows.
Combininig version control, simulation parameterization and automatic testing to automate verification and validation tests for speeding up research of numerical methods for two-phase flows.
