Homepage: WWW.SATMORPHY.DE The lecture sequence Saturday Morning Physics (SMP), which originated at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Battavia, Illinois, USA, is offered at the Darmstadt University of Technology for high school students, teachers and university students. Staff members of the Physics Department and the GSI report on various subjects of modern physics that is not yet content of the school books. This year the subjects are dealing with aspects of quantum physics including topics like lasers, X rays, gamma rays and cosmic rays, quantum computers, quantum cryptography, self organization and quantum chaos, dark matter and the accelerators used for some of the investigations. The individual events last for three hours at seven consecutive saturdays with a lecture of one hour followed by a discussion, a coffee break and a number of experiments partially performed by SMP students, lab visits and other student activities. The content of the lectures is summarized in the web. It is the aim of the organizers to foster the public understanding of science und to encourage the young generation to study natural science and especially physics. The president of the University awards the SMP diplom after successful completion of the course.
