Official Course Description:
This seminar provides an introduction to phonology, focussing on the sound system of the English language. We will learn which consonants, vowels and diphthongs exist in Present-Day English and how they are pronounced and transcribed. These will be illustrated with numerous audio examples. Further topics like stress and morphophonology are also covered. Students are expected to conduct exercises from our textbook. The course concludes with a final exam.
