Course Contents:
This course will give an introduction to effective field theories and the physics of many-body systems, with special attention to modern concepts and to applications ranging from cold atoms to nuclei, neutron stars and condensed matter systems. 

Outline: 

1. Introduction
2. Effective field theory and renormalization
3. Universality and cold atoms
4. Review of second quantization and applications
5. Path integrals and many-body partition function 
6. Perturbation theory, Feynman rules and applications 
7. Superconductivity, BCS theory and Nambu-Gorkov formalism 
8. Fermi liquid theory

Literature:
Chapters 4-7 of the course will follow: A. Altland and B. Simons, Condensed Matter Field Theory, Cambridge University Press, 2nd Edition, 2010.

Additional literature will be provided in the lecture.

Preconditions:
Quantum Mechanics, Statistical Physics, and Advanced Quantum Mechanics.
Nuclear Theory is recommended, but not necessary.
