Course Contents:
Fluid mechanics is the scientific field where partial differential equations first appeared in the 18th century. Nevertheless many challenging mathematical problems in the area are still open, the most famous one being the Millennium Prize Problem for the solution to the Navier-Stokes equations. Aim of the course is to provide an elementary introduction to the most important notions and equations appearing the dynamics of fluids, and to show the power of analytic tools and, in particular, of PDEs in describing physical phenomena.
